We are delighted to announce that the London Landmarks Half Marathon is now accredited by She Races, as an event that is actively committed to levelling the start line and putting in place policies and initiatives to make the event as female friendly as possible.
We have always been proud that we have such a large number of women joining us on our start line. In 2024, an incredible 66% of our participants were women – a percentage we celebrate as we remain committed to making the LLHM as inclusive and accessible as possible.
SheRACES is a network founded by ultrarunner, mother and campaigner Sophie Power to motivate more women to take their places on start lines. Having already positively impacted the operations of various events across the world, SheRACES offers guidelines to runners, brands and race organisers on how to make races – and the sport of running as a whole – more accommodating for women by identifying and dismantling the barriers that might prevent women from participating in events.
At the LLHM, we are committed to making our events as inclusive as possible. Historically mass participation sports have consistently struggled with gender balance on the start line, just like many other industries, so we believe it is our responsibility to drive change and get as many women taking part as possible.
Accreditation by SheRACES is a wonderful recognition of the work we have done to date, listed below, to make our entire runner experience as empowering, comfortable and supported as possible. We know there is always more to do though, so we look forward to working with SheRACES to identify new areas we can evolve in.
How the LLHM is Supporting Female Runners
Extended deferral policies
As the LLHM is owned and organised by Tommy’s, it is incredibly important to us that we have very robust policies in place to support women and birthing people in their post-partum and pregnancy journeys.
Therefore refunds, transfers or deferrals will be granted in the following circumstances:
For Participants who are pregnant LLHM will offer a refund, transfer or deferral of place of place for up to two years.
For Participants whose partner is pregnant and whose due date is within one month prior, or two month’s post-event date, LLHM will provide a deferral to the following year's event.
For Participants who are adopting or going through surrogacy within three months prior to event date, LLHM will provide a deferral to the following year’s event.
Breastfeeding Policy
A new policy that we introduced in 2024, if a participant gets in touch to say they will be breastfeeding on race day, we can offer flexibility on their start wave and time so as to best accommodate feeding and pumping times.
Sanitary products
Through our fantastic partnership with Beauty Banks, we provide Refresh stations along the route and in the start and finish areas, to provide free sanitary products and other useful personal care items such as hair ties and tissues. Beauty Banks is a fantastic charity that exists to end hygiene poverty in the UK by working with a variety of organisations and charities to get these personal care items into the hands of those who need them the most
Training Advice
We work with our Official Training Partner – Coopah – to offer female-specific training advice. For example, Coopah and our Tommy’s midwives teamed up to write these informative articles on running through pregnancy and returning to running post-partum.
Post-Event Survey
We are constantly trying to improve our events and make them as accessible as possible for everyone taking part. If you have any suggestions or recommendations on how we can improve the race for future years, please complete the post event survey or get in touch with us at [email protected].
