LLHM 2024 THEMED CHARITY CHEER POINTS

Thank you to all our charity partners who took part on race day. Here's a snapshot of some of the cheer stations that were out on the course.

ALZHEIMER'S RESEARCH UK - Celebrating the vibrant and colourful character of Elmer

Miles 2.8 and 8.7

ARUK partnered with Anderson Press for the release of 'Elmer and the gift', David McGee’s latest and last Elmer book. Elmer represents inclusivity and diversity, as well as being colourful and vibrant.

To celebrate this iconic character in its 35th anniversary year, they had an Elmer-themed cheer point at the iconic sightseeing tour bus.

ALZHEIMER'S SOCIETY - The 'Roaring Twenties' in London

Miles 9.3 and 9.9

Music can significantly improve and support the mood, alertness and engagement of people living with dementia.

The Alzheimer's Society cheer point theme was the 'Roaring Twenties' in London and celebrated this grand decade with a jazz/swing band that brought music and motivation for all runners, along with eye-catching 20's themed decorations!

BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION - Football in London

Miles 1.2 and 11.7

BHF hosted a celebration of Euro 2024 and the grand impact football has in London and the UK. There were Football-themed cheers, foam fingers, scarves, whistles and football crackers at this cheer point.

BHF also celebrated the hidden impact of their research at their RevivR themed cheer point with a screen displaying the RevivR service. Their third cheer point celebrated the quirky history of London with the iconic red double-bus - it's almost become a landmark itself!

CANCER RESEARCH UK - Football in the city

Miles 3.8 and 5.1

London has a rich history of football and CRUK celebrated this at their cheer point, with over 17 professional clubs within the city including 7 in the premier league alone. All of these have their own rich history that is entwined with the city itself coming from working-class clubs in the 19th Century. There was football memorabilia, a football stand, a selfie spot, and balloons to give it that football feel that will stood out on race day.

DEMENTIA UK - London Telephone Box

Mile 0.5

Dementia UK celebrated the history of London’s red iconic telephone boxes - to highlight the important need to communicate and that Dementia UK’s helpline is always here to talk. You couldn't miss the cheers from their awesome cheer squad.

GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL CHILDREN'S CHARITY - Bringing the Avenue of the Animals to life

Mile 4.8

Celebrating the extraordinary Great Ormond Street Hospital and its unique features with an avenue of the animals. With over 25 wards at the hospital that are named after different animals such as Lion, pelican and giraffe ward; GOSH took runners on safari. There was a DJ jeep (safari), volunteers dressed up in animal costumes and inspiring themed messages on placards saying things such as ‘Fly like an Eagle’ to ‘Just a jump & a hop to the finish line’.

GUIDE DOGS - "Open Doors" - Black taxi with its door open

Miles 8.9 and 10.4

Guide Dogs highlighted their “Open Doors Campaign”  and focused on the iconic London black taxi. The Black taxi was be the focal point of the Guide Dogs cheer point, with its doors open. Highlighting that guide dogs are welcome in all London taxis – it’s the law!

You couldn't miss the return of Buddy Dog, their very own Guide Dogs landmark flying high in the London skyline.

MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT - London's Sporting History

Mile 7.7

Celebrating London's Sporting History, Macmillan had multiple sports shown at their cheer point from tennis to cricket to football. You could the sound of their Samba band before you can see them!

MIND – The Thames

Miles 2.2 and 11

Celebrating the Thames! Mind’s Cheer Point featured shimmering blue banners and signage to display facts about the Thames for the runners and passers-by.

Did you know? In 1251, King Henry III was presented with a polar bear by the King of Norway. It lived at the Tower of London and swam in the River Thames on hot days.

NSPCC - London is the birthplace of the modern circus

Miles 3.2 and 5.7

The 'father of the modern circus' Philip Astley was the first to set up a performance space for the display of horse-riding tricks to the public in Lambeth, London 1768. There was a circus-themed cheer point with hula hoopers, motivating  with a fanatic youth choir singing all your favourite songs.

PROSTATE CANCER UK - London's Diverse Music History

Mile 9.6

The grand venues, the hidden trailblazers, the quirky stories. PRUK brought London music to life by turning their cheer point into a music venue; with a stage, live music and a dance floor. Runners gave a wave to life size cutouts of musical icons and read placards with facts about London's music history as they ran by.

SHELTER - London’s Hidden Homelessness

Mile 7.9

Shelter is highlighted homelessness across different London boroughs through eye catching tube station signs at their main cheer point outside Cannon Street Station. The boost participants needed at this point were delivered by Shelter’s loud and buzzing atmosphere with music and megaphones!

TOMMY'S

Music of London

Miles 1.4 and 11.5

The first of Tommy’s 3 cheer points celebrated London’s musical history. With a new theme and location this year under Waterloo Bridge on the Victoria Embankment, the dhol band Drumatic drummed for Team Tommy’s all day!

Rainbow

Miles 6.9 and 7.6

Tommy’s rainbow returned bigger than ever with the help of Moore Kingston Smith who helped us take over the whole of Bank Junction with rainbows galore! We’ll also had a DJ truck with tunes pumping all day from Beat n’ Trak.

Tommy's beginnings - St Thomas Hospital

Miles 12.2

Celebrating Tommy’s origins, Tommy's had a classic open-topped red double-decker bus parked on the corner of Westminster Bridge with a view of St Thomas’ Hospital. Rock Choir sang their hearts out all day as well to help Tommy's cheer on LLHM runners as they ran that last mile!
